Jasper Overton Wells
Jasper Overton Wells, born on December 4, 1867 in Jefferson County, Ill. departed this life on November 31, 1954 at the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 17 days. He was united in marriage on March 1, 1891 to Mary L. Asberry to which were born 9 children. The son of J.W.J. Wells and Eliza Jane Clampet Wells, he was reared on a farm in the vicinity of Scheller, Ill. His wife preceded him in death as did two children, Mrs. Maggie Rentfro in 1925 and Mrs. Pearl Williams in 1938. Surviving children are: Mrs. Rosa Morgan, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Lillie Ulrey, Christopher; Bert Wells, Fort Branch, Ind.; Mrs. Lydia Prior, Granite City; Leonard Wells, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Grace Roy, Christopher and Mrs. Alice Walker, East Peoria. Two Brothers, Robert and Willie, both of Scheller, also survive. He also leaves to morn his passing 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and associates. A retired minor and member of United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1421, Mr. Wells was devoted to hard work all through his long life. He lived to a ripe old age and enjoyed the blessings of his friends and his family until the end.
