Dorothy Iona (Berry) Whiteside
Dorothy Iona Whiteside, age 64, of Mount Vernon passed away 5:14 P.M. Monday, January 14, 2008 at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Il. She was born April 18, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois the daughter of Manuel and Lydia (Campbell) Berry. She married Robert Whiteside Jr. on March 25, 1977 at Lively Stone Apostolic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois and he survives in Mount Vernon. Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of Lively Stone Apostolic Church in Mt. Vernon for over 30 years where she also served in the choir. She was also a member of African American Heritage of Mt. Vernon where she served on the Card Committee sending cards to the sick. She is survived by her husband, Elder Robert Whiteside Jr. of Mt. Vernon. Three daughters, Charlene Matthews of Washington, DC, and Errian Johnson-Whiteside of Mt. Vernon, and Mia Cantley of Detroit, MI; one son, Terry Cantley and wife, Alesa of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, LaMeatria Jean Berry-Shelton of Madisonville, KY and a niece, LaMeatria Jean Berry and husband, Adrian Carruth of Mt. Vernon, IL; three brothers, Manuel Vernell Berry and wife, Barbara Jean of Mt. Vernon, IL, Leon Berry of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Donnell Berry and wife, Lucille of Elgin, IL; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, LaMont Cantley; and one brother, James Berry. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Evangelistic Outreach Christian Center (1407 S. 11th Street Mt. Vernon) with Bishop Paul H. Evans and Elder Allen Rudd Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn. Friends may call from 6 to P.M. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
