Joshua WILKEY, Sr., passed peacefully away Thursday morning at 6 o'clock.

He had ? ? ? in Jefferson and Franklin counties. His first attack was that of grip, which afterwards terminated in a complication of other diseases, of which spinal meningitis, that most dreaded disease, being the main factor.

Deceased was born in Jefferson Co., Ill., May 15, 1836, enlisted in the Union army at Centralia, Ill., August 5, 1862, as a private in Co. E. 80th Ill. Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged at Camp HARKER, Tenn., June 10, 1865. During the time he participated in the following battles: Perryville, Resacca, Atlanta, Franklin, Kenesaw Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Chattanooga, and Lookout Mountain and was in Libby prison two weeks.

At the time of his death he was connected with the Dahlgren state bank as a director and original stockholder. In business matters he was very conservative, always weighing matters fully before entering any important undertaking.

He was married to Eliza J. ROSS, December 2, 1866 and to this union five children were born, Mrs. Levada FISHER, George W. WILKEY, Mrs. Garrison PHILLIPS, Maxey B. WILKEY and Joshua WILKEY, Jr., all of which together with the widow, survive him.

He professed faith in Christ while in the service of his country for freedom, and while he had never united with any church, the one of his choice was that of the Methodist, and he expressed his readiness to go to his future abode.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Joseph ALLEN, of Dahlgren, and his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Oak Hill, March 11, 1910.
