George Ivan Wilkins
George Ivan Wilkins, 94, passed away at 5:26 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at his residence. He was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Marion County, a son of Jesse Floyd and Linnie Hester (Byars) Wilkins. He married Betty Jane Howard on March 8, 1941, in South Fulton, Tenn., and she survives. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County with Randy Sells officiating. A military flag presentation will be conducted by American Legion Post 141. Interment will follow.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Wilkins is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert Wilkins and wife Judith of Carlyle and John Wilkins of Milan; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Wilkins and wife Brandi of Breeze, Jennifer Gansauer and husband Paul of Carlyle and Rebecca Hook and husband Jacob of Pearland, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Addison Gansauer of Carlyle. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother , Grace; and an infant daughter. Mr. Wilkins served in the Army overseas for three years during World War II and was a retired rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Angles on Assignment or Hospice of the Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt.
