Nora Ethel (Foster) Williams
Nora Ethel Williams, 93, of Richland, Wash., and formerly of Mt. Vernon died 1:25 p.m. Oct. 21, 2004, at Alterra Assisted Living Center in Richland, Wash. She worked at the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory and for the state of Illinois as a file clerk with the Secretary of State’s office. Mrs. Williams was born March 22, 1911, in St. Louis to Cloyde and Minnie (Brookman) Foster. She married Rolla H. Williams March 18, 1931, in St. Louis; he died May 19, 1974. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial to follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Holland will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Norma Williams and husband Dwight of Hughes Springs, Texas, Jeanette McBride of Oliver Springs, Texas, and Ilona Kay Allen and husband Dale of Richland, Wash.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pearl Peacock and husband Gail of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Williams would purchase teddy bears and dolls from thrift stores, clean and repair them to new condition so she could donate them to charity, where they would be given to the children in her community. This year she had already cleaned and repaired 100 dolls and teddy bears that she had already donated. For those who wish, memorials may be mailed to Opdyke Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
