Died, Ann Eliza WILLIS, wife of Josiah WILLIS, April 10, 1897, near Fitzgerrell, Jefferson County, Ill., after an illness of fifteen days, though having suffered for four years past with dropsy.

She was born in Todd County, KY, October 6, 1826. Her parents, Mathew and Sarah COCHRUM, were among the earliest settlers of Southern Illinois, having moved from Kentucky to Shawneetown about 1829, then to Jefferson County the following year, where they lived until 1840 when they moved to Franklin County.

She was married to Josiah WILLIS at the residence of her parents January 16, 1845, by Rev. Joseph HARTLEY, pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church.

May 11, 1857, she was baptized and was a member of the Union Baptist Church until the time of her death.

Ten children were born to them, six boys and four girls, of which nine lived to maturity and were married, and one died in infancy.

During her life she was loved and respected by all who knew her and a sympathetic community join with the family in condoling their sad bereavement. They mourn the loss of a fond mother and a loving wife. Her life will always be a sterling example of self-denial and never-failing devotion to duty.

The last honors were paid to the dead at the Old Baptist Church, where the funeral was preached Sunday, April 11, by Rev. Josiah Harris. She was laid to her eternal rest in the old churchyard nearby, the bourne from which no traveler returneth. Peace be to her ashes. Franklin and Perry County please copy.
