Mrs. Effie Jane Wilson, of RFD 1, Mt. Vernon died at 2;00 a.m. today at the home of her son Melvin Wilson, near Nason. Her age was 67 years, three months and 14 days.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at South Hickory Hill Church, with the Rev. Ace Summers officiating, and burial will be in South Hickory Hill cemetery. The body will be taken to the family home at 4:00 p.m. today. where friends may call until the time of the funeral hour.

Mrs. Wilson was born January 13, 1884 in Jefferson county, the daughter of William and Nancy (Oliver) Wicks. .

She was married to Homer H. Wilson who preceded her in death in 1949. .

Surviving are seven sons, Ogal, Homer A., Hosie M., Elisha and Raymond of Mt. Vernon, Melvin and Herman of Bonnie; one daughter, Mrs. Lela Hester of Bonnie; one sister, Mrs. Ollie McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon; and 31 grandchildren. One son William David was killed in service during World War II, and one son and daughter died in infancy..

Again the recording angel of death has chronicled the passing of an immortal soul and we are reminded that this mortal life is at most only a few soon ending years. On April 27th, 1951 at 2:30 a.m. the soul of Effie Wilson left its earthly tenement to enter the better land where farewells are unknown. Her age at the time of her departure was 67 years, 3 months, and 14 days. She was the daughter of William David and Nancy Oliver Wicks and was born in Elk Prairie township, Jefferson county, Illinois..

In September, 1903 she was united in marriage to Homer Wilson and to this union eleven children were born. Two of these children died in infancy. One son, William David, was killed in World War II..

On Feb. 21, 1949, her husband and life companion departed this life..

She leaves to mourn her departure eight children. They are Raymond of Belle Rive, Herman and Melvin of Bonnie, Ogle, Homer Alla, Elisha, and Hosea of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Lela Wilson Hester of Bonnie..

She professed faith in Christ some 30 years ago at the church in Marco, Ill., and lived a faithful Christian life until her death. Of the monuments that will bear testimony to this good woman’s life none will speak more eloquently than the memory of her loyalty and devotion to her home, her church, and her God..

She weighed the values of life and excepted only the true, the beautiful and the good. .

She leaves to mourn her home-going the above named children one sister, Mrs. Ollie McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon, 31 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends..

Of such as she, it was said “Blessed are the dead that die in the lord from henceforth. Yea, sayeth the spirit, they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”.

Sweet are the memories
That never fade
Of our mother we loved
But could not save..

Our hearts ache with sadness
Our eyes shed many a tear
Only God knows how we miss her
The one we loved so dear.
