Melvin Wilson

Melvin WILSON, of RFD 1, Mt. Vernon, died at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, at the age of 50 years, one month and 21 days.

Mr. Wilson was a driver for the Viking Trucking Company.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at South Hickory Hill Church with the Rev. Melvin Larson and the Rev. Grant Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in South Hickory Hill cemetery The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday. At noon Friday the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Mr. Wilson was born January 18, 1915 in Jefferson county, the son of Homer H. and Effie J. (Wicks) Wilson.

On May 13, 1950 in this city, he was married to Jane Morgan, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Melvin Dean Wilson of Beloit, Wis., Monty Russell Wilson and Gary Dwain Wilson at home; a daughter; Jean Alice Wilson at home; five brothers, Ogal, Homer A., and Elisha all of Mt. Vernon, Hosie Wilson of Bonnie and Raymond Wilson of Belle Rive; a sister Mrs. Lela Williams of Mt. Vernon; and two grandchildren. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II, during which he served with the U.S. Navy.
