Evert Glenn Wilson

Evert Glenn Wilson, 73, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:58 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Jefferson County on Feb. 18, 1937, a son of Herman and Velma (Beckman) Wilson.

He first married L. Sue Long on July 23, 1955, in Gallatin County and later married Linda K. Cook on June 27, 1959, in Jefferson County.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 141. Interment will follow.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Wilson is survived by a son, Wayne Wilson of Tulsa, Okla.; four daughters, Bonnie Herren and husband Jim of Harrisburg, Cindy Ford and husband Dennis of Mt. Vernon, Kim Nociar and husband Kevin of Ina and Debbie Ritchie and husband Terry of Columbia; three brothers, Herman Wilson Jr. and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon, James C. Wilson and wife Marjorie of Ponchatoula, La., and David Wilson and wife Glenda of Humboldt, Tenn.; four sisters, Barbara Fullerton and husband Winston of Ina, Judith Williams and husband Darrell of Washington, Janice Laur and husband David of Waltonville and Verla Johnson and husband Jack of Ina; brother-in-law, John Smith of Opdyke; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilson of Bonnie; 14 grandchildren, Leigh Herren Mendoza of Nashville, Tenn., Christopher Herren and wife Amy of Nashville, Tenn., James Herren and wife Jessica of Collinsville, Billy Wilson and wife Kendayl of Tulsa, Okla., Jayna Wilson of Chicago, Megan and Morgan Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Shelley Ford Fritch and husband Kurt of Louisville, Stacey Ford Jones and husband Jeremy of Mt. Vernon, Sarah and Jeffrey Nociar of Ina and Tyler, Trevor and Zachary Ritchie of Columbia; eight great-grandchildren with one more due in July 2010; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; twin infant daughters, Carol and Carolyn Wilson; brother, Kenneth Wilson; and four sisters, Imogene Pilson, Joyce Wilson, Mildred Russell and Wanda Smith, preceded him in death.

Evert served in the United States Army from July 27, 1960 to July 13, 1962. He worked at Electra-Motive in LaGrange from 1955 to 1968 and then in 1968 began working at Precision National, where he retired in 1999.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the South Hickory Hill Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
