William Pierce Wininger L&N Watchman Here Dies Tuesday, Funeral Thursday

William Pierce Wininger, watchman at the Tenth street crossing of the L & N Railroad here for ten years died yesterday afternoon at the Bernard hospital in St. Louis, Mo., where he had been a patient for five days.

His age was 67 years, seven months and ten days.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Church of God on South Tenth street, conducted by Rev. Kelly and burial will follow in West Salem cemetery.

The body will remain at the home of his son, Lee Wininger, 412 Forest Avenue, until the funeral hour. Mr. Wininger made his home with his son here.

Mr. Wininger had been in the employ of the L & N Railroad for 35 years. A steady worker and respected citizen, he was given the job of night watchman ten years ago.

William Pierce Wininger was born January 6, 1871 in [Paoli] Indiana, the son of Isaac M. and Anna Bell Wininger, both of whom preceeded him in death.

He was united in marriage to Lucy [Ann] Durdin, who preceeded him in death.

He is survived by one son, Grover Lee Wininger of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Moore and Mrs. Henry Crim of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Roscoe Bumpus of Hammond, Indiana; one brother, Ed Wininger of West Frankfort and one sister, Mrs. John A. Uselton of Marion.
