Sarah Elizabeth (King) Yandell
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Yandell, one of the best known residents of the northern part of the county, died at her home in Field township at 7 o'clock Saturday evening. Funeral services were held at the Hopewell Church at 2 o'clock this afternoon followed by internment in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Yandell was born in Marion county on March 30, 1851, a daughter of the late Lewis and Harriett Bush King. Her age was 84 years and 2 months, nearly 60 years of which she spent in this county. On Jan. 29, 1870, she was united in marriage with James T. Yandell, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1922. She had been a member of the Zion M. E. church for many years taking much interest in the work of the church and living a life of a true Christian woman and mother. Mrs. Yandell was recognized as one of the leading women of her locality, practical, kindly, charitable and ever ready to assist others. She was a woman of many virtues, and possessed of excellent judgment and kindness of heart. She left her impress on the days and times in which she lived. Surviving are four sons; Oscar, H. M. , and Leonard of Mt. Vernon, and Dr. Harley of Phoenix, Ariz., and two daughters, Mrs. Etta Frost of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Mary Staley of Normal.
