James W. "Jim" Yates
James W. "Jim" Yates, 64, of Mt. Vernon died 5:45 p.m. Jan. 31, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was owner and operator of Azusa Printing in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yates was born Jan. 6, 1942, in West Frankfort to Harry W. Yates and Ellen Lucille Patton. He married Mary Lynn (Story) Yates Aug. 24, 1963, in Benton; she survives. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Daniel J. Jurek will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yates is survived by his father, Harry W. Yates of West Frankfort; his wife, Mary Lynn Yates of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Jamie Yates and wife Joni of Springfield and Patrick Yates of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Emily Yates of Springfield, Marybeth Yates of Springfield, Jonathon Yates of Springfield and Ellen Yates of Springfield; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother. Mr. Yates was a member and past exalted ruler of the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, a member of the Jefferson County Shrine Club, the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, the AMVETS, the Knights of Columbus, the Illinois National Guard and St. Mary's Catholic Church. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
